Even though ROTT used an old engine (from Wolfenstein 3D), it still had many good features. The game engine wasn't the original Wolf3d engine but Apogee Software added new things to it such as floor and ceiling texture mapping, touchplates, animated textures, elevators and even dynamic lighting (sort of).
