It's great, but unfortunately, the bike has the otherwise-great current Deore XT set ("Hollowtech") and are therefore unsuitable for shortening. For now, I'm just checking the temporary shorteners before and after every ride.

Shortening the crank is essentially like making the gearing taller. There shouldn't be any extra difference in speed or work if you have the same gain ratio. Splet09. jul. 2024 · Riding a 150mm crank probably seems "wierd" to folks who never rode short cranks. As a muni rider I've used cranks as short as 75mm and as long as 180mm. Over the years I found 150mm to provide a good balance of power and control in muni, so I guess it's not unusual that I'd find a similar magic in a 150mm crank on a mountain bike.

Splet01. okt. 2011 · I can tell the difference. I use a high cadence on my main bike (90-100rpm plus) which is comfortable on the 165mm especially when keeping a high rpm going up hills. On the 170mm it's harder to maintain for long periods due to the bigger size of the full pedal stroke. The shorter crank arms are also less stress on my knees and lower back.
